JATOBA
JATOBA (lat. Hymenaea Courbaril) is also called the Brazilian cherry, although it has nothing to do with the European cherry. Red-brown color with dark lines, darkens in the light - becomes dark brown. The Jatoba tree grows to a height of between 30 and 40 meters, with a diameter of 60 to 120 cm. It is a very heavy wood, weighing 890 kg/m³ at 12% humidity. It dries quickly and easily in the dryer, without major drying problems. Procedures such as planing, cutting, etc. are very demanding due to the very characteristics of wood. It is very durable and resistant to fungus and insects when used outdoors, but not resistant to marine organisms.
It is used for indoor furniture, floors, veneer, musical instruments, for outdoor use for bridges, structures, floors, etc. The wood is very stable outdoors and deforms very little. During longer dry periods, it is advisable to moisten it to prevent minor cracks in the wood.
